A tyre burst at 120 km/hr this weekend taught me something important about India’s roadside assistance ecosystem.
On Saturday, while driving back on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, my tyre burst at ~120 km/hr. I was lucky to stop safely — but what followed exposed the reality of roadside assistance in India.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. RSA promised a crane + taxi in 2 hours → actual help came after 8hr+
HDFC ERGO General Insurance insurance RSA → no one picked up despite 4–5 attempts.
National Highways Authority of India emergency helpline (1033) → no response even after multiple tries and 15–20 mins on hold.
Meanwhile, I was stranded with my 3-year-old son. I had to arrange my own taxi and later call my driver at night. The car was finally towed past midnight.
Two sharp lessons:
We spend lakhs on cars, tolls, and insurance — but when it matters most, the system fails.
Infrastructure and apps are not enough. What’s missing is empathy + reliability in moments of crisis.
India is building highways at world speed. But confidence in driving will only come when families know that emergency response is dependable.
👉 This is not a rant, but a call for change. OEMs, insurers, and authorities need to come together to build a tech-enabled, empathetic roadside support system.
Has anyone else faced something similar? What worked (or didn’t) for you?

India Just Banned a ₹27,438 Cr Industry Overnight.
One decision. An entire industry gone.
Thousands of jobs, billions in FDI, and years of innovation — all on pause.
Yes, regulation is important. Addiction and misuse are real problems. But could there have been a smoother way? A roadmap? A transition?
Because what’s at stake is not just gaming. It’s the signal this sends to every investor, every founder, every person building in India: how stable is our policy environment?
India’s startup story is about ambition and resilience. But it also needs predictability.
👉 What does this mean for the next wave of founders building in India?
