This happend exactly 1 year ago when I was working with TCS Digital and I asked this person for a referral after going through his Linkedin post on referral. It took me several days to come out of it as my confidence hit the rock bottom. A few open questions: 1. Who decides whether a college is a "good" college or not? This particular person was not from IITs, NITs, BITS nor IIITs if that was taken as a scale. 2. What is a "good" company? I give referral to deserving people irrespective of their college tier or company. At the same time, I must admit that there were also many generous people who helped me with referrals during my last job search. You can hesitate to give referrals but should it be done this way? Comment down your opinions. Edit: -> The post is not meant to target any company or any individual. If there is one thing that is questioned here, it is the system. -> I did sent my coding profile details, preparation time and my professional experience in the first mail. How I Convinced a Stranger on LinkedIn to Prepare for SDE2 Roles and He Ended Up Cracking Microsoft SWE2 🤑 Almost a year ago, a person working as an SDE1 in a good Indian startup with around 1.5 years of experience reached out to me for a referral at Razorpay for an SDE1 role. The first question I asked him was why he was looking for an SDE1 role when he already had enough experience to be considered for a senior role. He told me he felt unprepared for system design interviews, which are typically a key component of senior software engineering role interviews. After a couple of long messages, I convinced him to stop looking for SDE1 roles and to start preparing for SDE2 roles instead. I provided him with some resources for system design interviews which I had personally used. Fast-forward to a few weeks ago, he messaged me on LinkedIn, thanking me for our conversation and those resources, which he said were a turning point in his job search. He is now working at Microsoft as a Software Engineer 2. I was overjoyed that entire day.
