Irrespective of whether we are freelancers or startup founders, everyone has had the experience of sustaining clients while surviving and preserving our values.
During the initial phase of my career, I believed that the key to growth was to say YES to any proposition presented.
More work meant more achievement, right? However, finding out the hard way, it was also possible to do too much such that one experiences exhaustion, lack of motivation and inventive capacity, and more negativity than positivity.
Soon, I was faced with the crucial lesson I had been avoiding: the importance of saying NO. ๐
"NO" to unrealistic budgets and timelines, projects where there is NO passion. Learning to say NO was empowering because it allows one to devote more time and energy to the people and work that truly matters: who appreciate my work, whose projects excite me, and who allow me to keep my sanity.
The pivotal moment? ๐
The very quick and important realization that showing management of oneself is not an act of being conceited as much as it is an aspect one needs to achieve, to be successful in the long run. ๐
