They organise Street Child World Cup every 4 years. This time, it's in Doha. 24 countries, 28 teams of street children, one cup! I am too proud to say that India is a part of it too. People have always referred me as black/ brown/wheatish and I was told I didn’t "look good." I was shy, never picked first for anything, and even in group activities, I was pushed to the back where no one could see me. Many people in my family joked about my skin, and friends were few. It felt like I didn’t fit in all because of my color. I’ve met only two people who said I look beautiful just as I am. Two. Out of so many. It always makes me wonder why do we let skin color decide who gets confidence, who leads, who’s the center of attention? Fair-skinned girls are praised, chosen first, always speaking up. But what about the rest? I know this isn’t just my story. So many of us grow up feeling less because of something we never chose. When will we stop letting color define our worth?
