This was my second attempt at SSB.
(NDA 147 2021)
Just like the first time, I cleared the written exam (NDA-147) with ease, and now it was time for the SSB interviews.
I had a less-than-ideal experience during my first attempt, and unfortunately, this time started with a HICCUP too.
SSB interviews are scheduled in different batches within a 3-4 month timeframe.
I wanted to select the July batch, but somehow, it automatically allocated me the October dates.
I couldn't figure out whether it was our error, or a glitch on their end. But I had no choice but to accept it.
My interview was set for 10th October 2021, and my college was commencing on 7th October.
Despite the tight schedule, I managed to make all the necessary arrangements and reached Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
I should mention that this time I applied for The Air Force, and the process was scheduled at 3 AFSB Gandhinagar.
It was quite a sizable batch this time, with around 220 participants.
The aptitude round went fine I guess, and the group discussion round was also promising.
However, as we waited for the results, my confidence waned. As I felt, I COULDN'T CLEAR the screening round.
Reflecting on WHY I COULDN'T MAKE it this time, I identified a few factors:
🎖️ I forgot to carry my belt, and that made me self-conscious about my formal appearance. Officers have a keen eye, and my discomfort might have been noticeable.
🎖️ I struggled with anxiety about whether I would be selected or not, affecting my thinking during the aptitude test, possibly leading to avoidable mistakes.
🎖️ In the back of my mind, I was eager to get back to college and enjoy, which distracted me from maintaining my focus.
If someone is planning to go for CDS, keep in mind-
• The SSB is a long and challenging process, but it's important to stay positive and enthusiastic.
• SSB is all about assessing your personality and potential. It's important to be confident and authentic throughout the process.
• Most importantly, don't try to be someone you're not, because the assessors will be able to tell!
Don't make the mistakes that I made!
