Being Financially literate at 19 feels like having a Superpower! Here’s how I manage my early age earnings : 💸 Started 3 SIP’s -> Now I didn’t go by the rule of safe playing! I’ve invested only in small and flexi cap funds with deep research about their potential of growth. I analysed on the basis of the risk volatility and the rate of returns! Highest returns, ignoring the risk❌ Assessment of minimal risk among the highest returns population ✅ 💸Direct Investment in stocks! -> I’ve started investing in stocks recently only and I use all the knowledge I’ve gained over 6 months of my Articleship in an NBFC oriented audit firm to analyse what stocks to invest in and what not! Not a pro in this yet but in figuring it out one factor at a time! One of my colleagues has been really helping me out with this and 30 mins of our office time we spend on stocks together searching for something new to invest in everyday!😂🫶🏻 💸Spending on buying myself a new pair of fashion staple, everymonth! -> As much as future security, investment and savings are important, doing something for yourself and making yourself feel special is equally important! My parents have bought me everything I wanted from childhood in a blink but being able to buy things for myself now feels super powerful! This is how all the above breaksdown: -30% SIP’s -30% Stocks -40% Personal spends Trust me when I say this, being able to earn on your own is a very powerful and addictive (in a good way) trait! Ones you start it, there’s no going back! Be it very small and negligible, but having money by yourself to figure what to do with it will teach you some of the biggest lessons of life! And if not for this one exercise, I would have ended up crying on my birthday! I turned 20 this month! Strange how it’s the same time period of one year! Same as it was when I turned 19 from 18 but does this feel the same? Not at all! This feels heavier This feels more mature This feels responsible All of this, I started to feel 1 week in advance of my birthday and all the birthday excitement was blown into thin air! Then I did this one thing to make myself feel better⬇️ I sat down, I wrote all that I had already achieved until 19! At first the list was small, but then I realised that I’m only writing the big wins, the wins which were visible to everyone else, the ones which were material! 💡But what about the battles I won inside? 💡What about the days I cried alone and survived saying this too shall pass? 💡What about the lessons I learned alone? 💡What about the mistakes I made and faced the consequences fearlessly? And now, the list was as long as the credit card bills of my dad spent by me!😋🥰 This made me feel good. It made me realise that “Manasvi, if you can do so much till 19, imagine what you will do at 20” and voila🪄 Birthday excitement came back flying🧚🏻🧚🏻🧚🏻 20 feels like standing at a strange but beautiful intersection— I’m not a teenager anymore, and yet I’m not fully “figured out” either. Young enough to dream fearlessly. Old enough to start building those dreams.
