After ₹18–22 LPA, salary grows slowly,
but pressure grows very fast.
At this stage, work is not about doing more tasks. It is about making better decisions.
People expect you to decide, what to stop, what to push, who to support, and who to question.
I have seen many good performers struggle here. Not because they lack skills, but because no one clearly explains expectations.
There is no rulebook at this level. You learn from mistakes and mistakes are costly.
This phase is not glamorous. But if you understand it, the next big jump becomes possible.

₹12 LPA working all day
₹40 LPA working fewer hours
I’ve seen both, closely.
Over the last few years, while talking to friends earning ₹30–50 LPA, one pattern keeps showing up.
The jump didn’t happen because they suddenly became smarter or started working less.
It happened when their work started saving time, money, or bad decisions for others.
At ₹10–15 LPA, most people are paid to execute.
At ₹30–40 LPA, people are paid to reduce confusion.
Simple examples I’ve seen:
1. Writing a clear summary after a messy meeting
2. Flagging a bad idea early instead of fixing it later
3. Giving one strong recommendation instead of five options
One friend told me this honestly:
“I didn’t change companies first. I changed how I showed up in meetings.”
Slowly, people started looping him into important discussions.
Then decisions.
Then offers.
This shift is not dramatic.
It’s practical.
Anyone can do it, but most don’t. High-paying roles aren’t about looking busy. They’re about being useful at the right moment.
That’s when salaries start moving.

₹18 LPA → ₹22 LPA
vs
₹18 LPA → ₹35–40 LPA
Same experience. Same skills.
Only the approach is different.
Over the last few months, I spoke with 2–3 senior HR leaders and a few friends who earn ₹25–50 LPA and switch jobs with strong hikes.
One thing is very clear.
When you apply randomly through job portals, you enter the system as an unknown candidate.
Dekho, Your resume is screened. Salary is kept in a safe range.
Result?Usually a 15–25% hike. Sometimes 30%, if everything goes well.
When you come through a reference,
the company already has some trust in you.
Your resume reaches the hiring manager directly. The conversation is about impact, not filtering.
That’s why numbers change.
₹18 LPA becomes ₹30+ LPA.
₹22 LPA becomes ₹40 LPA.
This is not favoritism.
It is risk reduction.
Companies pay more when risk is lower.
Simple truth:
High-paying roles don’t come from job portals. They come from people who know your work.
If you apply, you negotiate on salary.
If you come with trust, you negotiate on value.
That’s the real difference.
