What I learned in my first 5 years of Futures/Options Trading RULES Limit to 1–2 Trades Per Day Quality over quantity. The more you trade, the more you risk overtrading and emotional decisions. Avoid Trading Inside the Prior Day’s Range Trading within range is less predictable and more prone to traps. Unless you’re using a specific range strategy, skip it. Use a Position Size You Emotionally Detach From Assume 50% of your trades will hit your stop. That’s normal. The edge lies in reward being bigger than risk, not a high win rate. Always Place a Stop Loss Immediately After Entry Non-negotiable. Don’t move or cancel your stop unless you’re adjusting to lock in profit. Protect your account at all costs. Never Add to a Losing Position Averaging down in futures can destroy your account. The market can move far more than you expect—especially in products like Nasdaq or crude oil. Set a Daily Max Loss Limit Lock this in with your broker. Never let one trade or even one day knock you out of the game. 3 Strikes and You’re Out If you take 3 consecutive losing trades, stop.
