RARE 1928, Powerful Sarojini Naidu Speech!
We are always searching for inspiration in the west, only if we could just dig deeper in our own history, it's so rich and so very profound as a country and as a society. I came across this, amazing video of Sarojini Naidu. She was such an inspiring and a very confident woman leader for many reasons.
Today, even after a century, still, I think this level of finesse and confidence in our craft in most women leaders is much lacking at many levels because still in some parts of society and many workplaces, women are considered less of a leader. We're skilled, but we're not confident.
Here is some inspiration from the work and life of Sarojini Naidu -
💡Literary Genius: Sarojini Naidu was a prolific poet and writer. Her work, often in English, drew upon both Western models and themes from Indian culture. She used her writing as a platform to depict the lives of Indian people and their struggles, as well as the beauty of the Indian landscape, culture, and folklore. Her poetry collection "The Golden Threshold" (1905), was widely acclaimed.
💡Political Leader: Naidu played a significant role in India's struggle for independence from British rule. She was the first woman to become the president of the Indian National Congress in 1925, shattering a significant glass ceiling. She participated in several significant movements, including the Salt Satyagraha and the Quit India movement.
💡Advocate for Women's Rights: Sarojini Naidu was a champion for women's rights and was instrumental in advocating for women's suffrage in India. She strived to improve the lives of women in her country and encouraged their participation in the political process.
💡Oratory Skills: Naidu was a captivating speaker. Her speeches were persuasive, powerful, and eloquently delivered. They often addressed important issues such as women's rights, nationalism, social welfare, and the promotion of communal harmony.
💡Role Model: Naidu broke many barriers as a woman in a patriarchal society. She showed that women could be leaders in politics and literature, and she used her position to fight for the rights of others.
💡Governor of Uttar Pradesh: After India achieved independence, Sarojini Naidu served as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 1947 to 1949, becoming the first woman to hold the office of governor in the Dominion of India.
In so many ways, she continues to inspire generations of people, particularly women, with her commitment to social justice, her literary talent, and her positive spirit.
