Why I Never wanted PPO during my B school internship —And Why You should Trust Your Gut Sometimes
In B-school, the holy grail for many is landing a PPO (Pre-Placement Offer)—it makes life easier, guarantees stability, and looks good on your resume. So why would anyone not take a PPO at a big brand like Asian Paints, especially in a bad market? I did, and here’s why:
1) Clear Focus on Strategy & Consulting:
I had always been clear about my career path—consulting or strategy roles.
They offered an IT/Product Manager role, which didn’t align with my goals. No matter how lucrative the offer, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted long-term.
2) When Things Go South:
When consulting firms dried up and shortlists didn’t come through, the pressure started building. I had to decide—should I settle for something else or keep pushing? Despite the rough market, I applied and gave it my all, refusing to back down.
3) The Hard Call:
During my internship, I made up my mind to not take a PPO even if they gave one, even though it was risky. Everyone around me said I was crazy—"Why risk it in a bad market?" But I had a vision, and I knew I had one last chance at the finals to get the role I truly wanted.
4) Heads Down, Eyes on the Prize:
While my friends were celebrating their PPOs, I kept my head down and worked. I knew this was my moment of reckoning, and I wasn’t going to settle for anything less than my dream role.
5) The Payoff:
When finals arrived, I landed a strategy role at JPMC—one of the few companies that checked all my boxes (role, brand, and money). The feeling was surreal.
I still remember Daniel Ricciardo’s win at Monaco iconic F1 commentary line: "It’s redemption day." That’s how I felt—validated and relieved.
My biggest takeaway from this entire journey is trust your gut. If you’re in an internship and don’t feel excited about the role, brand, or money, consider taking the risk. Sometimes, betting on yourself is the best decision you can make.
What risks have you taken in your career that paid off? Drop your thoughts below!

Resignation Without an Alternative Job Offer
I see someone resigning who doesn’t have a second offer ready, but I don’t see this as a reckless move-on the contrary, I see it as a strong message. The point is not about searching for a better opportunity.
It’s more about stepping away from an environment where they no longer feel comfortable or in their place. No one resigns “for nothing.”
They are driven by a poor work culture, frustrated leadership, or an environment that drains their motivation and self-esteem.

Why I Transitioned from EY India to Bain Capability Network
People often ask why I left a front-end consulting role at EY India (Big 4) to join Bain Capability Network (Big 3). After all, front-end consulting is seen as more “glamorous.”
Here’s the truth:
1) Better Pay
The pay gap between Big 4 and Big 3 is significant. Even back-end roles at Bain offer higher compensation than many front-end roles at EY.
2) Work-Life Balance
I wanted to prepare for an MBA while working. At EY, 15-hour days and extensive travel made that impossible. Bain offered a model that allowed better balance without compromising on impact.
3) Strategic Exposure
EY gave me tech consulting experience - ML, analytics, dashboards. But I wanted pure strategy. Bain offered growth and GTM strategy projects that aligned with my aspirations.
4) Perks & Culture
Bain’s culture and employee-first approach are unmatched. The perks and overall experience are on a different level.
5) Brand Value
Let’s be honest, Bain on your resume opens doors that EY simply doesn’t. For anyone targeting post-MBA roles, this matters.
No regrets: EY built my foundation. Bain gave me scale and brand power. Both shaped my career, but this move was intentional and worth it.
