In 2014, a ₹10 LPA job felt like a dream.
Just 90 days later, on campus at IIM Mumbai, ₹15 LPA roles didn’t even feel exciting.
I hadn’t become more skilled in those 90 days.
The only thing that changed?
- My environment.
Surround yourself with people who aim higher - and your own expectations will rise without you realizing it.
The biggest shift an MBA gives you isn’t just knowledge. It’s perspective.

My first salary was around ₹23K.
After a few months of saving, I finally saw ₹1 lakh in my bank account.
I still remember calling my father, excited to tell him about it.
It felt like a huge milestone - like I had truly earned something for the first time.
No amount of money today gives me that same feeling.
Maybe because it was the first time I had seen such a sum.
Maybe because, back then, it wasn’t just about the number - it was about the journey, the effort, the sense of achievement.
As we grow, our financial milestones get bigger, but that raw happiness? It’s rare.
Back then, ₹1 lakh felt like freedom. Today, the numbers are different, but the chase never really stops.
Maybe the real joy wasn’t in the amount, but in what it meant at that stage of life.
Have you ever felt this way about money?
What was your first big milestone that truly made you happy?
Let’s hear it in the comments!

At 24, my friends were cracking CAT and switching jobs.
I stayed in the same role for 4 years. Same routine.
Everyone else seemed to be racing ahead.
I questioned myself more times than I can count.
“Am I falling behind? Did I make the wrong choice?”
At 27, I finally made it to IIM Mumbai.
Those 4 years of doubt? They taught me patience and built resilience.
I walked into B-school with clarity I would not have had at 24.
The timing was perfect, even when it felt like failure.
Remember this:
You are not behind.
You are just on your own timeline.
Have you ever felt this way too? Let me know in the comments.
This post made me pause for a moment - because it reminds me of something we parents see up close but rarely talk about.
