In 2023, I quit my ₹60K/month job in Chennai. For 6 months of unemployment and failure. I was 29, living at home, and completely lost. Still trying to clear my CA final exam. The girl who used to top school with 95%, couldn't pass one f*cking exam. Those years of shame of not achieving ate me from within. It felt like the kind of failure that wraps around your bones. Broke. Directionless. Depressed. Mentally exhausted. Because when you fail something again and again You don’t just doubt your ability. You start doubting your worth. I had cracked the first two levels of CA with flying colors. But somewhere between balance sheets and corporate office politics... My passion just... died. I moved jobs to see if money could save me. From ₹30K in remote Odisha to ₹60K in Chennai. Thought private sector would challenge me. Save me. It. just. couldn’t. Same emptiness. Just better pay. And deeper self-hatred. So I quit. AGAIN. Told my parents, “Give me 6 months. I’ll crack CA.” They gave me everything - food, silence, love. And I failed. Again. No job. No degree. No clue what I was doing with my life. I gained weight. I stopped going out. I ghosted my friends. I hated who I was becoming. I hated that I couldn’t even explain why I couldn’t study. I felt like I was watching my life rot... from the inside. Then a friend said, “You love words. You understand business. Maybe look into copywriting?” (Because back then, I wrote poems. Was published and featured. Writing saved me from depression and helped me row my boat) So I did. That same night. Did the IKIGAI exercise. And everything clicked. Writing wasn’t my escape. It was my way back. Strategic writing. Creative storytelling. Words that made businesses work. I went mad with obsession. 14-hour days. YouTube became my Harvard. Desperation became my tuition fee. August 2024, I got my first client. Goal: ₹30K in 3 months. Result: ₹30K in 3 weeks. True happiness kissed me for the first time in years. I saw the look on my parents' faces, dayum! The pride that I could place in their eyes! T'was only possible because I believed in me. This is what happens when you bet on yourself so hard failure gets tired of messing with you. I used to think I was broken because I couldn’t love what I was “supposed” to love. Now I know I wasn’t broken I was just planted in the wrong soil. The girl who used to top her class? She’s still here. She just needed to find the right subject to fall in love with again. To anyone stuck in their “before” season: Your breakthrough might be one risk away.
