****Shameful**** Very disheartened to share this. This incident which took place with me this morning was actually disturbing. Moreover it was shocking because it happened on a platform like LinkedIn. Wondering what kind of mindset nowadays these people have. We are not safe anywhere, it is not just when we step outside of our homes but also at our home. And we cannot see any shame or guilt on their face. According to a survey, eight out of 10 people in India have experienced some form of online harassment, with 41% of women having experienced sexual harassment in cyberspace, The Hindu reported. Types of Cyber Sexual Harassment: Sexual comments/messages: Unwanted or inappropriate comments or remarks of a sexual nature. Unsolicited explicit content: Sending unsolicited sexually explicit images, videos, or links. Cyberstalking: Persistent and unwanted attention or contact online. Revenge porn: Sharing sexually explicit images or videos of someone without consent. Sexual blackmail: Threatening to share or release sexually explicit content unless demands are met. Harassment/bullying: Using offensive language or comments to harass or intimidate someone. Impersonation: Creating a fake account or pretending to be someone else online to harass or intimidate others. Remedies related to cybercrime, everyone especially women should be aware of. 1. Report to the Platform: If you are being harassed on a social media platform, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the first step is to report the abuse to the platform. Most social media platforms have a reporting system in place, and they take online harassment seriously. Once you have reported the abuse, the platform will investigate and take appropriate action. 2. File a Complaint with the Police: If the harassment is severe or threatening, you can file a complaint with the local police. The police can investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the abuser. 3. Seek Legal Remedies: If you are a victim of online harassment, you can seek legal remedies through the Indian legal system. There are several laws in India that deal with online harassment, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Indian Penal Code.
