I spent 18 months breaking into PE without IB or MBA. Here's what actually worked: I stopped asking "How do I get in?"  Started asking "How do I prove I can do the work?" So I built: → 12 LBO models (nobody asked for them) → 8 investment memos (wrote them anyway) → 100+ cold emails (42% response on one template) Most went nowhere. Then one memo changed everything. Target: ₹300 Cr manufacturing company Thesis: Consolidation play, fragmented market Returns: 28% IRR projected over 5 years Sent to 15 PE funds. 13 ignored it. 1 said "wrong sector for us." 1 said "come in next week." That meeting → 3-month project → full-time role. The lesson: Nobody cared about my resume. They cared if I could do the work. I proved I could. I've spent the last 6 months turning everything I built into a toolkit. The models. The memo structures. The email scripts. The tracking systems. The roadmap.
