My mom never wanted me to resign from my job at KPMG.
The reason was simple: I was the first one in the family to land a corporate job, especially in a BIG 4 firm, which people in our city typically don’t know about.
For my mother, it was a dream to see me working in skyscrapers. I did, but not for long because I guess destiny had something else in store for me.
But one of the biggest questions is, is my mother happy now? And how did I convince my parents for it?
It wasn’t that difficult for me because:
→ I didn’t go against their wish. It was their dream to see me working in such companies, and I fulfilled that dream, albeit not for long.
→ They had seen me working hard for the things I love, even when I wasn’t getting paid. So they had faith and trust in me because I had earned it over time.
→ Lastly, I sat down with them, made them understand the core reason why I was leaving, what I planned to do next, and asked them to give me the time for self-exploration.
If I couldn’t achieve anything in that time, I promised to consider their suggestions.
→ And one more thing I learned during this decision-making process: they were never against me; they were just concerned about me and wanted that safety net around me.
But because of the generation gap, it becomes our duty to help them understand things in the best possible way.
After a certain point, even they got convinced, because at the end, they just wanted to see me happy.
Now, the only thing left is to make them even more proud, and I have faith in myself that I will...
→ Have you ever encountered such a situation? How did you convince your parents?
→ In the next post, I will share the core reason behind resigning from the job, so stay tuned and hit the follow button.
