He charged just ₹2. But gave people something priceless - hope. Dr. A.K. Rairu Gopal, fondly known as Kannur’s “two-rupee doctor,” passed away at 80. But his story will live on for generations. For over 50 years, he stood as a pillar of compassion, charging only ₹2 for consultations and often giving free medicines to those in need. At the peak of his practice, he saw over 300 patients a day, starting at 4 a.m. and working tirelessly until late afternoon. His day began at 2:15 a.m., feeding cows, praying, and reading the newspaper before patients arrived. He never cared for fame, luxury, or profit. He avoided pharma company commissions, prescribed only affordable medicines, and never over-treated. His father once told him: “If you want to make money, pick up a pickaxe and rob a bank. Don’t misuse the nobility of medicine.” He lived that advice, every single day. Patients came from miles away, not just for medicine, but for his kindness and dignity. For many, just meeting him was half the cure. Even after treating over 18 lakh people, he stayed grounded. Even as his health declined, he never stopped serving. In a world where healthcare is becoming unaffordable, Dr. Gopal was a rare example of what true service looks like. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan rightly called him “the people’s doctor.” Doctors like him are once in a lifetime. Rest in peace, Dr. Rairu Gopal Sir 🙏 You didn’t just heal bodies, you healed humanity.

After 30, life stops judging your face and starts judging your outcomes. This quote hits because it’s not really about looks - it’s about value. In your 20s, potential is enough.
