Engagement Over Time
Visualization of how my engagement on posts has evolved
I've been watching Shark Tank and learning a lot from the different Sharks. 🦈
My favorite shark is Aman Gupta of boAt Lifestyle and here's why:
➡ Firstly, as a marketer, it’s easy to relate to his comments and way of thinking, given that he is the only shark who is also a CMO.
➡ Amongst the sharks, he speaks the least; he observes the most, and in the feedback he gives, he really picks on words and is able to reach the core or realize that the founders have not found their core quite easily.
➡ He is also very instinctive. I guess his observation skills make him decide faster.
➡ I see him investing and betting on the entrepreneurs more than their ventures. You always hear him say, 'I am betting on your spirit, I am betting on your positive outlook, I am betting on your conviction,' even if he has picked many holes in whatever has been presented. Didn’t I say he asks directed questions?
These are the reasons why I think there is a lot to learn from Aman Gupta.
➡ How to be intuitive? How to really listen and get to the heart of the matter and then make your decision? I think that is the one single thing I am learning from watching Aman Gupta on Shark Tank.
His ability to listen attentively, analyze situations quickly, and make significant decisions has earned him admiration in both the startup and marketing communities.
Who is your favorite shark from Shark Tank? And what did you learn from them? 🌟
A moment of pride & joy.
Celebrating the graduation of my son Abhilash Menon. M. Arch. In Sustainable Environment Design from Architectural Association (AA School of Architecture).
From a very young age, Abhilash’s skills in design were quite evident. In his drawings, one saw proportion and, as an advertising art director colleague had pointed out, a mature colour palette then for his age.
Add to it a sense of being sustainable from a very young age. Be it participating in science contests at school which got the children aware of consumption and Abhilash living them even after the contests were over. Showing a deep respect for what the world should be & can be.
As I stood and watched the ceremony & celebrated the occasion with him, his batchmates & his friends; it was with immense pride & joy.
Do shower your good wishes on him as he now looks forward to embarking on a career in building sustainable environments for people to live, work & play.
Sharks and Their Unique Investing Styles
As I continue to indulge in every episode of Shark Tank India, one thing that constantly stands out to me is how the Sharks leverage their industry knowledge, domain expertise, educational & personal backgrounds to make investment decisions.
Have you noticed how their backgrounds influence their investment strategies? 🤔
They are investing closer to categories they know, which is very logical if you understand a business and somebody shows you an opportunity to grow or a niche to be built.
You’re more likely to understand it better than someone who’s not from your industry. Isn’t it??
✅ 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐡 of Sugar Cosmetics brings her deep understanding of the beauty and wellness industry into her investments. Further, sugar being a beauty brand they have focussed on branding & packaging, which has definitely added to their success. And hence her feedback on most brands is also on the same - not short on appreciation when it’s good & equally tough when it lacks basic design language.💄
✅ On the other hand, 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫, hailing from a family with a successful pharma background, gravitates towards investments in pharma, health & wellness and medical products. Beyond capital, she offers invaluable networks and support to nurture groundbreaking ideas in the healthcare space. 💊
✅ 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐥, are known for their focus on technology-based ventures, always on the lookout for innovative solutions that can disrupt industries. 🌐
✅ And then there's 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐥, with his small-town roots, who champions small-town entrepreneurs and encourages ideas that resonate with young India and Bharat. He openly offers his Oyo hotel network for food or hospitality-based businesses to come and grow their business. 🌍
Each Shark's investment style mirrors their industry expertise and personal values, making Shark Tank a dynamic platform for entrepreneurial growth and mentorship.
What are your thoughts on aligning investment strategies with industry-specific knowledge?
